What is Perch Rock?..... Facing Liverpool, across the Mersey is the Wirral Peninsula and on the northern tip of this peninsula at New Brighton is Perch Rock. It is the name given to the fort, which was built as a coastal defence battery in the Napoleonic period and the nearby lighthouse. Today, the fort houses a museum documenting its own history as well as a collection of aviation relics from World War Two and exhibitions covering the connections the Wirral had with the ill-fated vessels Titanic and Lusitania. There is also an exhibition dedicated to the Thetis submarine disaster of 1939. Visit Fort Perch Rock's web site at www.fortperchrock.co.uk
